The National Cathedral, Washington, D.C. In 1907, President Theodore Roosevelt laid the cornerstone to this 14th century English gothic Cathedral, completed in 1991. Its Preamble reads: “First. It shall be a House of Prayer for all people, forever free and open welcoming all who enter its doors to hear the glad tidings of the Kingdom of Heaven, and to worship God in Spirit and in Truth. It shall stand in the capital of our country as a witness for Jesus Christ, the same yesterday, today and forever, and for the faith once for all delivered to the saints; and for the ministration of Christ’s Holy Word and sacraments…” Photograph: John W. The Salvation stained-glass windows, by Hungarian artist, Bosiani, portray the Fall of man through disobedience, in Genesis, chapter 3, plunging the human race into chaos and fear (right). Man’s salvation bought by Jesus Christ on Calvary’s Cross, shedding His blood as an atonement for all who whould believe in Him (center); and subsequently, the true Believer’s reconciliation with his Heavenly Father, through His Son, the Messiah (left). “I am the way, the Truth and the life. No man cometh unto the Father but by Me” (Jesus Christ). John 14: 6. Photograph: John W. Wrigley © 1990.
